I have a new quote to reflex upon: "Don't eat anything your great grandmother wouldn't recognize as food." Probably that thought for health reasons could also encompass, exercise the way people did before TV and video games: walk, bicycle, use a row boat, climb stairs, garden, play games with your children, enjoy a group sport, swim and enjoy a loving sex life. Most of these activities are inexpensive and the foods are usually fresh (not fast food or made from a mix). There you have a very simple health plan. Another part of mental health is to actually talk to people (eye to eye) not just on the phone or e-mailing or texting. If you are reading this, let's get together for a real conversation and get back to the finer things in life, such as caring for others and taking good care of ourselves: body, mind and spirit.

APRIL IS HERE: NO FOOLING!

This is a poem by Lisel Mueller that touches my heart:

Sometimes, when the light strikes at odd angles
And pulls you back into childhood
And you are passing a crumbling mansion
Completely hidden behind old willows
Or empty convent guarded by hemlocks
And giant firs behind that wall,
Under the uncut hair of the willows
Something secret is going on,
So marvelous and dangerous
That if you crawled through and saw,
You would die,
Or be happy forever.
